T-Minus One Week...

So it happened that Shane and Erika were in München. And it was good.

Tonight we will board a Nachtzug headed straight for Paris. At least, I hope it's straight there... I'd hate to have to wake up in the middle of the night and clear out to board some other train... I don't think they make you do that on the overnight ones though.

Amazingly, infinity plus one week apparently equals next Thursday, when our journey at last comes to an end. We will spend two more nights in Paris, and then four in London, and then that's all she wrote.

Yes, there is a heat wave here in Europe. It's nothing unbearable, and having no past summers in Europe to compare it to, it doesn't necessarily feel that odd. Also, since we are highly affluent people, while we have occasionally frequented hostels and the mass of beds crammed into one room which that entails, for the last four nights, we have at least had the pleasure of our own little hotel room. While not air conditioned, at least we didn't have to lay awake half the night listening to Jorg from Sweden snore out a lung. Budget traveling my ass.

Running out of time, so, bon voyage.

Okay okay

It's not so much that the internet is hard to find. It's not even overwhelmingly expensive, I suppose. Sometimes I wish I had dedicated myself to routine, well-crafted accounts of our journeys. But, ultimately, I don't want us to spend our vacation holed up in smokey internet cafes, connected to anything and missing everything.

Either way, we are in Praha right now, our last night of a week-long stay. I wish we had thought to stay longer, especially given our luxurious accomodations. Seriously. Germany can wait.

But, Germany won't wait, and tomorrow, we will arrive in Dresden by train. We will be staying there one night, and then seeing four other cities within the following week and a half.

So far, we have been through Paris (3 nights), Chamonix (2), Bern (stopping in lame Geneve on the way) (2), Interlaken (3), Cinque Terre (2), Firenze (stopping in Pisa on the way) (2), Roma (3), Venezia (2), Axams (in Austria, near Innsbruck, with friends) (2), Salzburg (3), Wien (3), Cesky Krumlov (2), and finally Praha (7!).

We are well.

Sorry

If you've ever been in Europe, traveling rather rapidly from one city to the next, you know that access to the internet is occasionally hard to come by, and expensive when you do find it. Thus, forgive us for not providing nightly updates of our various escapades and adventures.

Hopefully our pictures and (parts?) of our travel journals will do our trip justice when we get back home.

Thanks!

3 Ducks

We are at the 3 Ducks hostel in Paris. Our luggage is almost here. Hope to see it soon, and take a shower. Saw the Louvre, Arc, Notre Dame, etc. Internet time at premium.

This is the day

We are leaving for Europe today. We are planning to do most (or all) of our on-the-road "blogging" to this site. We fly away from LAX at 8:40PM (God willing) and land in Paris at 6:40PM. Somewhere in there is a stopover in London. Wish us luck.

Dress Codes

Sort of curious about manner of dress, more specifically, whether there are locales in which shorts are more or less inappropriate (besides inside churches).

Doubts

I am beginning to question the wisdom in taking the beard with me. It just seems like an unnecessary hassle. Not that i am going to shave everyday while we're there. It just might be a good idea to start clean. I could do without the second glances too.

Pack list draft

This is an all comprehensive list that is supposed to include everything we could think of brining (within some kind of reason). Here it is, if you'd like to take a look. Please suggest things that should be added (we're reasonably sure what should be taken off). I think the stars refer to stuff we don't have/own.

We are currently having packing troubles. We did a trial pack and everything seemed to fit fairly comfortably in my one backpack. The thought of only traveling around with one main piece of luggage worries me, but at the same time, i don't want to have two giant backpacks if we don't need them.

I think the sleeping bag idea is out. Just too heavy.
